Janie Sheridan
Professor Janie Sheridan is Associate Director of the Centre for Addiction Research at the University of Auckland. She completed her PhD at the University of London in 1995, after which she worked at the National Addiction Centre, London, where she focussed on researching the role of the community pharmacists in the provision of substance misuse services, and on exploring prescribing patterns in opioid substitution therapy. Janie moved to New Zealand in 2002, and continued with these research areas, and expanded her research to include exploring primary health care issues for drug misusers and their access to healthcare services, looking at the role of community pharmacy in screening and brief interventions for risky drinkers, developing pharmacy services for young people, researching treatment for methamphetamine dependence, and understanding the use of methamphetamine from the perspectives of those who use this drug, understanding medicines sharing, as well as research into teaching and learning in pharmacy and into pharmacy practice more broadly. She has also been involved in research into new psychoactive substances. She currently collaborating on research into older adults and drinking, service provision for those who have become dependent on prescribed opioids, exploring and assessing websites in relation to consumer information on cannabidiol products and benzodiazepine dependence and misuse. Jane has published over 150 peer reviewed journal publications, and co-edited the book “Drug Misuse and Community Pharmacy”.
