Dr Amy Chan is a senior clinical research fellow at the School of Pharmacy, University of Auckland (UoA), and holds an honorary position at the Centre of Behavioural Medicine, University College London.  Amy is a clinical pharmacist academic and holds a joint-appointment between UoA and Auckland District Health Board (ADHB). The aim of the jointly appointed post is to lead the development of a new Academic Practice Unit – a multidisciplinary collaborative unit between ADHB and the University Schools of Pharmacy, Medicine and Nursing with a key focus on medicines-related research and practice. Amy completed her PhD with the University of Auckland in medicines-related behaviour, which investigated the effect of a digital adherence intervention on treatment adherence in asthma. Amy has over 10 years’ experience in the public health service, where she led the clinical pharmacy service in mental health, was the co-convenor for the New Zealand Hospital Pharmacists’ Association Mental Health Special Interest Group and was involved in health service delivery research.

Amy has specific research expertise and interests in the area of behavioural medicine, digital health and pharmacoepidemiology – understanding patterns of health behaviour in individuals and in health professionals, the factors that influence these behaviours and how/why they impact health.  She has specific expertise on medicines-related behaviour such as medicines adherence, and the role of digital interventions to promote behaviour change.  Amy is the global lead for workforce transformation with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), and the Commonwealth Pharmacists’ Association Professional Development and Research Lead. Amy sits on the steering committee for the European Society for Patient Adherence, COMpliance, and Persistence (ESPACOMP) –an international organisation on adherence research, and is part of the COST Association (European Cooperation in Science and Technology – an intergovernmental framework for science and technology). Amy also provides consultancy to charities, research organisations, and non-government organisations.
