COVID-19 risk communication
In the absence of a vaccine, all the public health recommendations to protect the health of the public relate to human behaviours. In response to this, a group of 100 researchers from over 33 countries developed a new online tool that calculates the risk of individuals contracting and transmitting COVID-19. Our team at the School of Pharmacy was involved in leading the New Zealand team and coordinating some of the translations. The tool is available in 28 languages and offers tips and advice to reduce an individual’s risk of contracting/spreading the virus. The tool was reported in the news and completed by over 17,000 New Zealanders. The data is currently being analysed, and will inform what factors influence individuals’ decision to follow health protection measures, and how best to communicate risk messages to the public.
