Dr Mohammed Mohammed is a lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice at the school of Pharmacy, University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is a pharmacist by training and holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and a Masters in Clinical Pharmacy from Jimma University. Mohammed completed his PhD in 2018 at the University of Sydney, Australia. His PhD was focused on developing methods to optimise medicines use and improve health outcomes of patients with chronic conditions. Prior to joining the University of Auckland in 2018, Mohammed taught at Jigjiga University, Ethiopia, and the University of Sydney, Australia. Mohammed is currently the module lead for cardiovascular and dermatology modules for the BPharm program.

Mohammed’s research interests relate to health services and outcomes research, specifically the quality use of medicines and health outcomes. He has a particular interest in medication management and optimisation in vulnerable patient populations, medication-related burden, medication safety, clinical pharmacy services, screening and management of chronic conditions, HRQoL and patient-centred measures, digital health and consumer informatics. Mohammed’s recent and ongoing projects include evaluation of patients’ lived experience with medicines, evidence-based strategies to reduce medicines burden, and integration of validated tools into practice to optimise medicines use and the care of patients. He has extensive experience in the development, evaluation and implementation of clinical tools and patient-centred measures. With colleagues at the University of Sydney, Mohammed led the development and validation of a patient-reported measure of medicines burden on functioning and wellbeing-the Medication-Related Quality of life (MRB-QoL) tool.

Through local and international collaborations, he is currently involved in various research projects focusing on optimising the care and health outcomes of patients with chronic conditions. Mohammed is a member of the EORTC Quality of Life Group and he also collaborates with academics from universities in Australia, Canada and the UK. Mohammed has broad research experience utilising both qualitative and quantitative methods.
