Zimei Wu
Professor Zimei Wu attained her MSc from China Pharmaceutical University and PhD from Otago University. During the Masters training (compulsory three years) she studied pharmacokinetics focusing on entero-hepatic circulation as well as formulations to improve oral bioavailability of a poorly-soluble drug; whereas her PhD was addressing the low bioavailability and tissue irritation of a poorly-soluble drug in injectable formulations. Since joined UoA in 2009 Dr. Wu’s research has focused on developing strategies for tumour or brain ‘targeted drug delivery’, eg. pH/redox-sensitive liposomes and ‘extracellular vesicles’. She also researches dermal/transdermal drug delivery. At Auckland, she has attracted $NZ 2 million research funding as Principal Investigator including Marsden, NZ-China Research Alliance Programme (MBIE), Cancer Society of NZ, Auckland Medical Research Foundation etc. She received a NZ-China Scientist Exchange award from the Royal Society of NZ.
She has published more than 110 international scientific journal articles (Biomaterials, Journal of Controlled Release, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Nanomedicine) and 4 book chapters (H-index 28). She is co-editor of 1 text-book and inventor of 13 patents. Her publications can be found at: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Zimei_Wu
Dr. Wu was President of Controlled Release Society NZ Local Chapter, and a Global CRS Young Scientists Committee member. She serves on Editorial Board of: Pharmaceutical Research, Biomaterials Science, Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, Journal of Liposome Research, and Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology.
Dr Wu is currently leading 7 postdoc and PhD as primary supervisor, and has co/supervised to completion of >30 PhD/Masters, and mentored 4 Postdocs. She has wide collaboration across the University (Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre, School of Medical Science, School of Medicine, School of Chemical Sciences etc) and internationally with researchers in China Pharmaceutical University, Yantai University etc.
